Maalat takes its name from the Cebuano word for "salty" — a nod to the barangay's long history of salt-making along its coastline. Located on the western side of Madridejos, it is known for traditional salt beds (asin) and fishing. The salt-making area is a local landmark worth visiting during the dry season (March to May).
