About the Municipality

Madridejos is a 1st-class island municipality in the province of Cebu, located on the northern tip of Bantayan Island. With a population of approximately 42,828 residents across 14 barangays, Madridejos is known for its pristine beaches, vibrant fishing industry, and rich cultural heritage.

Geography

The municipality occupies the northernmost part of Bantayan Island, one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Visayas. It is bounded by the Visayan Sea to the north and east, the municipality of Bantayan to the south, and the municipality of Santa Fe to the southeast.

Economy

The primary livelihood of the people of Madridejos is fishing, with the municipality being one of the largest producers of dried fish in the province. Agriculture, particularly copra and root crop production, also contributes significantly to the local economy. In recent years, tourism has become a growing sector with the development of beach resorts and eco-tourism sites.
