History

Historical Background

The municipality of Madridejos was named after the town of Madridejos in Toledo, Spain. It was established as an independent municipality during the late Spanish colonial period.

Spanish Era

During the Spanish colonization, the area was part of the larger parish of Bantayan. As the population grew, Madridejos was eventually established as a separate municipality with its own local government.

American Period

Under American rule, Madridejos underwent modernization with the establishment of public schools and improved infrastructure. The fishing industry also began to flourish during this period.

Post-War and Modern Era

After World War II, Madridejos rebuilt and continued to develop its fishing and agricultural sectors. The municipality has since grown into a thriving community with modern amenities while preserving its cultural heritage and natural resources.

Today, Madridejos stands as a testament to the resilient spirit of its people — the Madridejosanon — who continue to build a better future for generations to come.
